The fruit-filled news that did the rounds of several months in 2013 is that Apple is planning to release a bigger iPad that embodies a 12.9-inch screen, tailored for the education market.
This news isn't new, for all those who just jumped right in. Last month, I posted an article that rumored on possibly Apple's next move - the 12.9-inch iPad, dubbed the iPad Pro. Citing sources from the "huge supply chain", Taiwanese news website Digitimes - which spots on when it comes to foreseeing Apple products - recently claimed that Apple has contracted Quanta Computer to mass produce the tablet in the second half of 2014.
The Digitimes report follows other recent reports that the device will launch later next year.
Computerworld columnist Mike Elgan thinks the reports are off base.
"I find it very hard to believe that schools would buy 12.9-inch, near 4K quality tablets and let kids take them home in their backpacks," says Elgan.
"That's why a 12.9-inch iPad for the education market makes sense only if it's designed to be used in the classroom exclusively, essentially as a desktop computer."
