Advantages and Disadvantages of a Laptop/Notebook

Laptops: Advantages and what's the Catch?

Laptops (Where it shines)

Portability

 - Being able to bring a laptop with a horsepower that matches that of some desktop counterparts makes a whole new level of portability and productivity.

Less Cost

 - This is usually true to all. Laptop processors are specifically tailored to provide less consumption power to be able to use its juice effectively. Hence why you save on $$ when having a laptop than its desktop equivalent. Notebook processors are generally marked with an M at its codename (i.e 350M or similar) stating that its made for notebooks.

Laptops (Where it fluctuates)

Upgrades and Expandability

 - Laptops doesn't have expansion slots (let alone some rare occasions). You are only allowed to change your RAM and Hard Disk Drive. Buying Ultrabooks won't help either, knowing they doesn't even provide the flexibility to change your battery.

Disasters

 - Well, let's be honest here. When your laptop heatsink fails, you're pretty much screwed aren't you? Almost all market laptops comes with a motherboard, parts, bits and pieces which are made specific to that model. You're going to have a hard time changing that LCD if it will ever break on you. Which will cost you to replace the whole laptop whereas a desktop with a broken LCD could save you $$ than buying a new full-fledged system.
