Underrated Device 2013: The Dell Venue 8 Pro

Dell Venue 8 Pro

Debuted at $300, this little Windows 8 Pro running tablet has since been seen as little as $99 and runs full Windows 8 in a small package. The Operating System is considered crap by many, but it's a fully functional working slate for under $100 dollars.

The display measures in at 8-inches and gains a resolution of 1280 x 800 - not bad for a cheap priced tablet. It's also an IPS display which means you could look at it theoretically in any angle without washing the image out. Another point on the display deals with its brightness. The Venue 8 Pro has a 400-nit display, though running it at full brightness will greatly affect the battery life. This slate is also equipped with an Ambient Light Sensor to which it should adjust the brightness automatically.

The Venue 8 Pro is powered by a quad-core 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3740D processor with 2GB of RAM, an Integrated Intel HD graphics and 32GB of internal storage goodness. To supplement some may thought as a puny drive, you have the option of adding extra memory through a memory card slot. The MicroSD card slot sits on the right side.

The battery life is not too shabby either. Loaded with an 18 WHr battery, they rated a 9.9-hours of run time. In the real scenario though, we see it getting a little more than 7 hours. A little close.

Dell Venue 8 Pro

    PROS
  • Appears to be a decent value for the asking price
  • Be it for work or pleasure, the Venue 8 Pro doesn't disappoint

    CONS
  • Lacks a full-sized USB port
  • Lacks an HDMI port for connecting to an external display
In the end, for what it's worth, it surely wouldn't bog you down with its specification. The price surely justifies what you get. Even rated the cheapest Windows Tablet, it certainly would surpass other Android tablets with the same caliber.

What do you think?
