CES 2014 Unveiled: Huawei's Ascend Mate 2 4G
There's wealth of phablet's circling the planet. At CES 2014, we're taking a look at a refreshed version of the Ascend Mate phablet called the Ascend Mate 2 4G. It sports the same 6.1-inch HD IPS+ LCD display, but with an 'upped' chipset, more built in storage storage, and updated front and rear cameras.
There's no word of pricing just yet, but the Ascend Mate 2 will be available in the US unlike its predecessor.
The spec-sheet shows that it features a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor chugged along with an Andreno 306 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It also runs Huawei's own eye-candy on top of Android with their Emotion UI 2.0. It has a 13-megapixel autofocus HDR-capable f/2.0 rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. Unlike the previous model, the Ascend Mate 2 comes with 16GB of storage as opposed to 8GB.
Of course, as you would expect from its name, it has an upgraded radio with LTE support up to 150 Mbps download, and 50 Mbps upload. It's also slightly thinner but heavier, at 9.5mm and 202 grams.
The 4050mAh battery is the same as the previous model but Huawei pointed out a 2 day 'uninterrupted' usage.
The real star of the phablet is that it has a 'reverse' charging feature that allows it to charge other devices.
